Thirza

Sensory Gardens

Hi, I'm Thirza, the proud owner of the sensory garden “Sneupen bij Willem” in Friesland, North Netherlands. Willem, my heart dog, is a Rottweiler who joined our family as a puppy nine years ago. Initially insecure and fearful, Willem thrived with puppy training and brain games (Hersenwerk). At six months, we discovered man trailing and scent detection, which opened a new world for us. Using his nose greatly boosted his confidence and wellbeing.

After completing numerous courses and seminars, I opened my sensory garden four years ago, welcoming dogs and their owners. My passion extends to fostering senior dogs and using observation techniques to enhance dogs' experiences. I strive to be an ambassador for sensory gardens worldwide.

Presentation Key points:

  • Willem's journey
  • The Importance of Sniffing for Dogs
  • The Five senses & the Sensory Garden
  • My own Sensory Garden "Sneupen bij Willem"
  • The Dutch Sensory Gardens Initiative
